Fall 2024 Advisor Training Series

Advisor training is ideal for new chapters, instructors, and schools establishing with SkillsUSA, as well as for existing chapters aiming to enhance their programs. Trainings cover the Chapter of Excellence Program, onboarding new chapters, Career Essentials, running regional championships, tests and certifications, competitions, the Model of Excellence, DEI in education and the workplace, and understanding OSPI initiatives.

Chapter Of Excellence

Thursday, October 3 @ 4-6 PM

In this session, advisors will learn how to integrate the Chapter of Excellence Program (CEP) into your classroom, beginning with an overview of the SkillsUSA mission and Framework. We’ll cover the steps to achieve Quality Chapter status, the benchmark set by Nationals, by guiding you through the eight required indicators and the application process. You’ll then explore how to advance to the Chapter of Distinction level, where you’ll develop a program of work that helps students master the Essential Elements through meaningful activities. We’ll compare the requirements of Quality Chapter and Distinctive Chapter levels, provide SMART goal examples, and emphasize the importance of reflection and celebration of student accomplishments. Finally, you’ll be introduced to resources on the website and get a glimpse into becoming a Model of Excellence.

Preparing Regional Championships

Tuesday, October 8 @ 4-6 PM

Advisors and chapter leaders will learn how to best prepare for regional championships within their local districts and classrooms. Advisors will be given the resources and access to the tools needed to be successful when hosting or helping facilitate a regional contest. They will be able to collaborate and learn from one another and ask questions to our state staff to ensure they are planning and readying to implement correctly.

SkillsUSA Advanced – Teaching Tools

Thursday, October 10 @ 4-6 PM

Advisors will learn SkillsUSA basics, including the Framework and how to register members and conference attendees for regional, state, and national participants in the Career and Technical Student Organization online system utilized by SkillsUSA. Advisors will learn how to access and use technical standards and additional elements of the registration system, including the Chapter of Excellence Program, Advisor of the Year Application, and dates to complete each component. They will gain help accessing the absorb platform, a resource center for advisors to use the curriculum recommended for the overall success of their students’ participation in the SkillsUSA Championships at all levels.

Embracing DEI in the CTE Classroom

Join our upcoming DEI training designed specifically for CTE Advisors! This program will equip you with the knowledge and strategies to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in both your classroom and the workplace. Highlights include understanding DEI fundamentals, recognizing and addressing biases, creating inclusive classroom cultures, integrating DEI into the curriculum, and preparing students for diverse professional environments. Through interactive workshops, expert-led discussions, and resource sharing, you’ll gain practical insights and connect with fellow educators dedicated to promoting DEI. Integrating SkillsUSA into your Classroom Framework

“Integrating SkillsUSA into Your Classroom Framework” is a training designed to help educators seamlessly incorporate SkillsUSA programs and principles into their existing curriculum. This training provides educators with strategies and tools to enhance their classroom environment by embedding SkillsUSA’s framework, which focuses on developing personal, workplace, and technical skills grounded in academics. By aligning classroom activities with SkillsUSA’s standards, educators can foster a culture of leadership, teamwork, and professional development among students, preparing them for future career success. The session includes practical tips, lesson plan integration examples, and resources to support effective implementation.

Round Table: Statewide Support for Advisors

Tuesday, October 22 @ 4-5 PM

Advisors will explore SkillsUSA’s Chapter of Excellence Program, learning how to access and utilize key resources through various platforms to enhance classroom instruction.
